Dog Training Classes

A school for canine life lessons…

Dog training classWhat good is perfect behavior in the classroom if, the minute you get outside, your dog jumps up to greet every friendly stranger and forgets to come when you call?

The things your dog learns in a dog training class need to work in your day-to-day life—and that’s how we teach classes at For the Love of Dogs. Not just the behaviors, but the principles that make them work and how to apply those when faced with challenging environments.

Here’s what we currently offer:

Basic Manners: Level 1

The first 6 months are the most critical to a dog’s behavioral development. During this period your puppy learns his place in the household and how to behave around humans and other dogs. Socializing your puppy at this time significantly affects how your puppy will react to situations as an adult.

In this class, you’ll spend time each week exposing your puppy or dog to new things to help him grow up to be a well-adjusted dog and a great family companion. This class will also help adolescent and adult dogs that need to unlearn habits you don’t enjoy and replace them with new, more desirable behaviors.

Class covers: Potty training techniques, don’t jump, come when called, walk on a loose leash, sit, down, stay, and more.

For: Puppies/beginners, ages 10+ weeks

Length: 6 weeks

Where: 1027 Tanney Lane, Hudson, WI 54016, map

Cost: $104

Class size: Max. 8 dogs

Intermediate Manners: Level 2

Strengthen your puppy or young dog’s manners to create good habits for a lifetime. In adolescence, dogs often seem to forget what they learned in puppyhood. They are easily distracted, wary of things they barely noticed the day before, and generally drive their patient parents nuts. We’ll help you through this phase and out on the other side.

Class covers: Heel, go to your bed, and improve upon all the behaviors of Basic Manners, by adding distractions, distance, and duration to our sits, downs, stays, and recalls.

For: Graduates of Basic Manners: Level 1

Length: 4 weeks

Where: 1027 Tanney Lane, Hudson, WI 54016, map

Cost: $104

Class size: Max. 6 dogs

Advanced Manners: Level 3

This is a ‘proofing’ class. That means we’ll be putting your dog’s skills to the test in real-life scenarios as well as out on the town. We will set up challenging scenarios in the classroom (props and everything) and go on field trips.

Class covers: Loose-leash walking, polite greetings, come when called with distractions, sit/down-stay with distance, duration & distraction together, and more. We take everything you have learned thus far and add distractions and distance to really strengthen the training.

For: Graduates of Intermediate Manners: Level 2

Length: 4 weeks

Where: 1027 Tanney Lane, Hudson, WI 54016, map

Cost: $104

For: Graduates of Advanced Manners: Level 3

Class covers: Recall techniques

For: All dogs

Length: 4 weeks

Where: 1027 Tanney Lane, Hudson, WI 54016, map

Cost: $104
